Born in Bristol, and brought up in Somerset, I’ve grown up with the words and sounds of this wonderful county. The dialect of the region holds a huge charm for me, and while my everyday accent may be regionally indistinguishable, my native ‘yurr’ creeps back in when I head back to my home town of Bridgwater.
My love for accents and dialects drove me to study linguistics at both Undergraduate and Masters level. In 2012, I began working as a researcher in Digital Humanities (DH), particularly those around digital curation, and training within DH. I’d like to include some digital humanities techniques within my research, specifically GIS for mapping.
In 2013, I embarked on a PhD which will look at changes in the Somerset dialect in more depth. I hope you will join me on my academic travels through the Somerset language…..
